BROOKLYN - A leafy block in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens has been named the greenest in Brooklyn.

Sterling Street, between Washington and Bedford avenues, is this year's winner of the Brooklyn Botanical Garden's 19th annual competition.

Thousands of borough residents commit to beautifying their neighborhoods each year for the contest, which judges blocks on color, total visual effect and citizen participation.

There was also an award for the greenest commercial block, which went to Atlantic Avenue, between Bond and Nevins streets, in Boerum Hill.
