Straphangers cope with major delays on F, Q lines

BROOKLYN - Major service disruptions on the F and Q train lines in South Brooklyn have many local straphangers altering their weekend plans.

Transit officials say there will be no F and Q service at the West 8th Street station until some time on Sunday.

Authorities say a fire that sparked last night in the station's signal room caused the problems. The flames were extinguished by 9 p.m. but MTA workers are still scrambling to make repairs and complete safety inspections.

No F trains are running between Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue and Avenue X. No Q trains will go between Brighton Beach and Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue.

In the meantime, the MTA is providing several free shuttle buses to accommodate riders.MTA Information
