Student sues NYPD for profiling, excessive force

An honor student and her family are suing the NYPD for $5.5 million for alleged racial profiling and excessive force. Brittany Rowley was arrested last

BROOKLYN - An honor student and her family are suing the NYPD for $5.5 million for alleged racial profiling and excessive force.

Brittany Rowley was arrested last week when police officers mistook her for a thief. The young girl says she thought she was being kidnapped and started running when two men jumped out of a car and started chasing her last Friday.

The men turned out to be undercover cops who mistook Rowley for a girl who had shoplifted from a Park Slope shop. Officers arrested her because she fit the description of the suspect.

Surveillance video later proved Rowley was not the suspect and the charges were dropped. Rowley's father says the girl suffered neck, wrist and neurological injuries.

The NYPD has not yet responded to a request for comment on the lawsuit.
