BROOKLYN - Parents and students at M.S. 51 walked or rode a bike to school today. The initiative is part of an effort to promote alternatives to driving.

School officials say walking and biking to school not only promotes exercise but also reduces traffic and pollution from cars. The program is part of International Walk and Bike to School day.

Students rode and walked through several Brooklyn neighborhoods while picking up students along the way.
