Students return to school following stabbing

CROWN HEIGHTS - Students at Paul Robeson High School returned to school Monday amid heightened security following a stabbing.

Students were greeted with requests to empty their pockets, open their bags, take off their belts and remove all metal objects after the stabbing incident Friday. Police said a 16-year-old student stabbed 18-year-old Kyle Owens in the throat and stomach as he was leaving the cafeteria. Owens was revived by a Robeson basketball coach before being taken to Kings County Hospital, where he?s currently recovering.

Police placed the school on lockdown Friday following the attack and spent hours searching the school for the suspect. They made an arrest on Saturday.

New York City Schools Chancellor Joel Klein visited the school Monday to offer support and advice to Robeson?s principal.

?I?ve come here to talk to the principal and make sure that [I do] anything I can do to help,? said Klein.

Students who did not want to be identified said they were surprised that anyone could sneak a weapon into the school, as metal detectors are already a part of school security.
