BROOKLYN - A new study released by the city's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene says Greenpoint residents have the highest percentage of alcohol-related trips to the emergency room in the borough.

The study found that 4 percent of all alcohol-related trips to the emergency room involved Greenpoint residents.

Substance-abuse experts in Greenpoint say the posh drinking culture in the area may be to blame.

The commissioner of the city?s health department said the numbers are most likely caused by binge-drinking incidents, not by alcoholics.
