BROOKLYN - A new study has found that Brooklyn drivers pay more in car insurance compared to other city residents.
Brooklyn ranked number one in the highest car premiums among the five boroughs, according to the website nerdwallet.com. The study found that the average car premium for a Brooklyn resident is about $3,550 per year.
The study also found that the yearly motor vehicle theft rate for the borough is 3,308 cars, which plays a role in why Brooklyn residents pay more in car premiums.
Insurance agents say possible fraud in collision shops and the overwhelmingly high amount of insurance claims in Brooklyn drive up premiums for residents.
The Bronx has the second-highest car premiums of all the boroughs, followed by Queens, then Staten Island.
