The MTA and NYPD say they are teaming up to put a stop to scammers who are breaking MetroCard machines to take advantage of commuters

THE BRONX - The MTA and NYPD say they are teaming up to put a stop to scammers who are breaking MetroCard machines to take advantage of commuters and transit workers.

Authorities say the suspects have been jamming MetroCard machines, forcing travelers to buy swipe cards from them. The NYPD says the number of arrests for the scam has doubled in recent months.

The MTA hasn't provided annual figures on the vandalism damage, but maintenance logs from the last year show incidents are up by 26 percent.
