RED HOOK - Brooklyn residents are looking for ways to avoid the heat as temperatures climb into the mid-90s.

Instead of letting kids play outside, the YMCA on Atlantic Avenue offered different activities in the gymnasium and classroom so children could stay cool.

The Red Hook senior center is one of the many cooling centers in the city that are open through Thursday to provide some relief from the heat.
