BROOKLYN - Business owners in Brooklyn’s Chinatown are adopting a new approach to litter removal.

In an effort to reduce overflowing garbage baskets and litter on the street, the Department of Sanitation is providing green garbage bags to business owners in Sunset Park. When they are filled, owners are asked to tie up the bag and place it next to the basket for pick up.

The Department of Sanitation is also handing out literature in Chinese, reminding people that the baskets are for litter only, not garbage from businesses or homes.

Garbage complaints have also been made in the commercial industrial area on 39th Street. A spokesman said the area does not meet the criteria for basket placement.
