Sunset Park residents say summonses are unwarranted

SUNSET PARK - Uprooted trees are causing a big problem in Sunset Park.

A number of homeowners on 50th Street have received summonses for cracked sidewalks in front of their homes. But homeowners say the cracks are caused by uprooted trees. The Parks Department has a "Trees and Sidewalks" program that repairs sidewalks damaged by curbside trees. All requests are inspected and ranked based on their severity. A spokesperson says the city will cover the costs of sites eligible for the program.
