MANHATTAN - SUNY Downstate's Board of trustees voted today to delay the closure of the Long Island College Hospital.

The board rejected a proposal from a real estate developer to turn the area into condos and an urgent care and fitness center.

Many residents have been fighting to keep LICH as a full service hospital for the past year.

Those in support of keeping LICH as it is say they remain cautiously optimistic. They say the rejection of the proposal does not mean the fight to save the facility is over.
