BROOKLYN - The State University of New York has chosen Brooklyn Health Partners to take over operation of the struggling Long Island College Hospital.

SUNY announced the decision Thursday, and negotiations to finalize the sale are expected to start immediately.

Officials say that Brooklyn Health’s proposal includes a newly renovated full-service hospital with up to 400 beds and an additional 2,000 employees. It's expected to be up and running within three years.

Just last month, a state court approved an agreement to let SUNY stop operating the financially strapped facility at the end of May.
