MARINE PARK - A Marine Park woman has gotten a special surprise as mail sent to her more than 40 years ago has resurfaced and found its way to her.

Letters and cards addressed to Susan Heifetz, some of them dating back to 1969, were delivered to the apartment where she grew up on East 12th Street. The current tenant thought Heifetz would love to have the mail, so he looked her up online and called her.

"I was freaking out," said Heifetz. "I could not believe this happened."

Heifetz received birthday cards, along with a letter from an old boyfriend while he was serving in the Vietnam War. She even got a letter written to her by her parents while she was away at camp. Heifetz says the post office hasn't given her a good explanation for the slow delivery, but she's happy to have the old letters.
