BROOKLYN - Susannah Mushatte Jones, the oldest person in New York state and third oldest in the world, celebrated her 114th birthday today.

Miss Susie, as her friends call her, was born on July 6, 1899 in Alabama. In her 11 decades, she has seen segregation, the suffrage movement and 20 presidents. Mushatte's family says one of her favorite memories was voting for the first black president.

Mushatte was married and never had any children. Throughout her life, she has worked in child care and considered those children her own. Today, she has more than 100 nieces and nephews.

Mushatte's secret to living such a long life is eating anything she wants in moderation.

Mushatte is currently blind and can no longer speak much, but her family tells News 12 she lives her life filled with the love of her family.
