Suspect in custody for hit-and-run ATV crash that injured a police officer

EAST NEW YORK - A suspect is in custody after an alleged hit-and-run accident with an ATV that injured a police officer in East New York.

The police officer was hit shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday on Autumn and Pitkin avenues. Witnesses say he was left bleeding on the ground after getting struck and dragged by the yellow Yahama ATV. 

The officer was taken to Jamaica Hospital with a broken leg and contusions to his face.

The driver of the ATV fled the scene, but police found the ATV in front of 257 Hegeman Ave. and took the suspect into custody.
