WILLIAMSBURG - Police say a suspect has turned himself in following an attack on a rabbi yesterday in Williamsburg.

According to police, 36-year-old Meilech Schnitzler approached Rabbi Nuchem Rosenberg on Roebling Street Tuesday afternoon and threw a cup of bleach into his face. Rosenberg was taken to Woodhull Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Rosenberg says he knew Schnitzler and believed the attack was due to his support of child sex abuse victims following the sex abuse conviction of Hasidic counselor Nechemya Weberman.

Schnitzler is charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing and criminal mischief.
