Suspect's sister takes 5th in newborn murder trial

(09/16/10) BROOKLYN - The sister of the Brooklyn woman who allegedly put her baby in a plastic bag and left it on her back porch

(09/16/10) BROOKLYN - The sister of the Brooklyn woman who allegedly put her baby in a plastic bag and left it on her back porch to die refused to testify today, citing the 5th Amendment. Laura Sergio?s sister, Andria, was charged with improper disposal of the newborn three and half years ago when the child?s body was first discovered, but those charges were dropped. Now the prosecutor says Andria lied during her grand jury testimony against her sister and when cross-examined today, she refused to speak. Authorities say the sister wants immunity so anything she says during the trial won?t result in new charges for her.

Officials from the FDNY, EMS and the medical examiner's office also testified today.

The judge warned Andria that if she didn't speak Monday there could be consequences.
