Suspected top al-Qaeda operative grew up in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN - Authorities are investigating the role of a top al-Qaeda operative who grew up in Brooklyn.

The FBI says Adnan Shukrijumah is connected to the foiled mission to bomb New York City subways last fall. Shukrijumah?s father was an Imam at Masjid Nur Al-Islam mosque on 21 Church Ave. in Kensington. The family later moved to Florida.

Shukrijumah?s mother is calling the allegations unbiased and says her son is not a violent person.

The FBI says one of two men accused of planning the suicide bombing mission on the New York subways, Najibullah Zazi, identified Shukrijumah from an old video.
