BROOKLYN - The New York State Federation of Drivers say it supports the mayor's plan to increase the number of cabs in the outer-boroughs. However, the group says it wants added protections and fairness.

The federation is asking the city to help livery drivers afford a bid on the new medallions. They also want all taxis to be outfitted with the same safety protections as yellow cabs.

The city plans to dedicate 6,000 cabs for hails outside of Manhattan.
