BUSHWICK - Some tenants in Bushwick say their building’s owner is refusing to address deplorable conditions in an effort to move them out.

Tenants at 314 Troutman St. say the landlord has let the building fall into complete disrepair, forcing tenants to repair it themselves.

Tenants say the landlord has also sent people into the building to harass them, which the landlord denies.

The building is owned by the nonprofit organization Ridgewood Bushwick Senior Citizens Council.

News 12 reached out to the nonprofit, and it said it wants the tenants out of the building, but temporarily. It says the building is in such disrepair that it needs them to leave for renovations. Then, it says tenants will be allowed to return.

However, residents say that they don't trust the building owners. Carlota Rodriguez says she moved out after signing a temporary relocation agreement that promised she would return to a renovated apartment within a year. That was in 2010.

"I've been out of the building for four years and they haven't repaired a thing," Rodriguez says.

The nonprofit insists that it has every intention of returning tenants to their apartments once renovation work is done, but it says it can't begin until the tenants move out.
