Thousands flock to Coney Island for hot dog eating contest

CONEY ISLAND - Thousands flocked to Coney Island today for Nathan's annual hot dog eating contest.

Defending champion Joey Chestnut retained his title, the Mustard Yellow Belt, by downing 62 hot dogs during the 10-minute competition. He has won five years in a row.

"I might need some Pepto-Bismol later," Chestnut said. "But I feel great."

Sonya Thomas, nicknamed the "Black Widow", won the women's title. This year marked the first year in which separate contests were held for men and women.

An individual Chinese team also competed for the first time at Coney Island.
