Thousands of parishioners walk across BK to mark Good Friday

BROOKLYN - Thousands of parishioners walked across the Brooklyn Bridge today to commemorate Good Friday.

Churchgoers said the procession reminded them of the Gospels' account of Jesus' sacrifice. "We want to give emphasis to the fact, especially in a place like Ground Zero, that suffering in our lives has meaning."

Parishioners in Park Slope also gathered for a procession. They said their march started with under 200 people, and eventually climbed to 1,000, with participants joining on the way.
