MILL BASIN - Thousands of volunteers throughout New York City are participating in NY Cares Day, brightening up public schools and motivating students.

Volunteers are spending the day painting murals and decorating hallways at 90 NYC public schools. Some volunteers are designing wall hangings featuring college logos to prepare students for college and career readiness.

Volunteers say beautifying schools will help give students a sense of confidence.
