BROOKLYN - Thousands flocked to Coney Island for a New Year's Day dip as part of the annual Polar Bear Plunge.

Participants jumped into the cold waters to mark the new year.

Leticia Diaz, who has been participating in the event since 2007, says if she doesn't start her new year in the Atlantic Ocean, she just doesn't feel right.

The frigid temperatures were too much for some, but others felt comfortable, and in some cases, warm enough to toss a football around.
