Time capsule set for Coney Island YMCA upcoming opening

BROOKLYN - A time capsule has been fully stocked to coincide with the upcoming opening of Coney Island’s first YMCA.

Officials say the three-year construction project on the West 29th Street facility is almost complete.

The time capsule includes wood from the Coney Island boardwalk, sand from the beach, Nathan’s containers and other pieces of local memorabilia.

Also included is a News 12 reporter’s microphone flag.

The time capsule will most likely be opened in about 50 years. The Coney Island Y opening date has not yet been determined.
