BROOKLYN - Time is running out for the most inexpensive way to ship a FedEx package in time for the holidays.

Today is the final day for standard shipping to ensure delivery in time for Christmas. After this, the price to send a package will rise as the holiday draws near.

Anyone planning to use the U.S. Postal Service instead still has some extra time. The final day to ship using first-class mail is Dec. 20. Priority mail will get your gifts delivered in time if sent by Dec. 21, and Dec. 22 is the last day for express mail.

People trying to ship packages at their local post office today will likely face long lines, as today is typically the busiest day of the year for the U.S. Postal Service. It's expecting about 130 million extra pieces of mail today on top of its normal load.
