BROOKLYN - Today is the last day for potential voters to mail in the registration form to be eligible to vote in next month's general election.

The state Board of Elections requires all of the applications to be postmarked no later than today and received by Oct. 16. This is the only way to be eligible to vote in the election.

The mayoral race has been heating up recently as Democrat Bill de Blasio is being criticized by his opponents for skipping the first debate. The current public advocate has a 50-point lead over his Republican rival, ex-MTA chair Joe Lhota. Lhota and ex-Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion shared the stage without de Blasio on Wednesday.

The general election will be taking place on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
