BROOKLYN - News 12 Brooklyn has been counting down the top stories in the borough for 2013 as voted by our viewers, and coming in at No. 1 is a violent spree of so-called "knockout" game assaults.
The disturbing trend of attacks made headlines in recent weeks as "knockout" players allegedly try to punch unsuspecting victims with the goal being to knock them unconscious.
The assaults have included a wide range of Brooklyn victims since November, including a 20-year-old Jewish man in Crown Heights and a 78-year-old woman in East New York.
Local leaders and community advocates repeatedly denounced the violence and tried to come up with ways to put an end to it.
Police also stepped up their investigation into the “knockouts,” and made arrests in several of the cases.
