BROOKLYN - The National Weather Service and the Office of Emergency Management have confirmed that an EF0 tornado touched town in Brooklyn yesterday evening.

The announcement comes after the groups toured heavily devastated areas of the borough this afternoon.

The storm-ravaged area was littered with uprooted trees and downed power lines. Some areas also saw serious structural damage to buildings.

Brooklyn residents and work crews spent the day cleaning up debris and hauling away trees downed by the storm and subsequent tornado.

Citywide, there were about 1,300 trees knocked over by the storm.
