Tree falls on Bay 13th Street, crushes 2 cars

BROOKLYN - Heavy rains throughout the day Wednesday toppled a large tree in Bath Beach, causing substantial damage to two cars.

Frank Scimecca says his family loved the giant, old tree on Bay 13th Street, but its branches grew too large and heavy. Parks Department workers spent more than an hour trimming and chopping the tree in order to remove it from the street.

According to the Parks Department employees, the roots of the tree showed it had been rotting inside.
