LLOYD HARBOR - A village meeting in Lloyd Harbor following an investigation into its former police chief did little to shed light on the situation, some residents say.

As News 12 and Newsday have reported, the village received subpoenas involving Charles Flynn, who retired from the village's police department in November.

Among other information, the subpoenas asked for all time sheets and payroll records involving the former chief, who ran a 12-member department. Critics say Flynn's overtime and salary, over $300,000 a year, seemed exorbitant considering the village's low crime rate.

Residents like Candy Bertuccio say they were hoping to get answers from the village board.

"We have zero crime in the village," Bertuccio says. "I just don't think it warrants that kind of salary."

Mayor Jean Thatcher has defended Flynn's salary. But she says she couldn't say much about the subpoenas during the meeting, citing the ongoing investigation.

That excuse prompted other residents to call for more transparency in the village.
