BROOKLYN - The trial for an accused cop killer got underway Monday in Brooklyn with the officer's widow taking the stand.

Leslyn Stewart, the widow of NYPD police officer Dillon Stewart, testified against Allan Cameron, the man accused of killing her husband. Leslyn Stewart stared at Cameron in the courtroom as she tearfully talked about how she learned of her husband's death in November 2005.

Prosecutors say Cameron shot and killed Stewart after being pulled over for running a red light near Flatbush and Church avenues. They say although no witnesses saw Cameron pull the trigger, their investigation and DNA evidence proves he's guilty.

However, defense attorneys maintain Cameron is innocent. They say he never confessed and claim the evidence comes filtered through police. The defense says the NYPD led a biased investigation.

Cameron faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
