Turkish carmaker nixed for Taxi of Tomorrow

BROOKLYN - The city has rejected a bid to manufacture the cab design by Turkish carmaker Karsan.

Officials were looking for a new cab design through the Taxi of Tomorrow competition. The top choices were submitted by Ford Motor Co., Nissan Motor Co., and Karsan Omtomotiv Sanayi & Ticaret AS of Turkey.

The city rejected the Karsan bid saying the automaker did not have enough experience with U.S. regulations.

The city is expected to announce the winner of the competition later today.
