BROOKLYN - A sanitation worker was hit by a van while collecting garbage in Bensonhurst Friday morning.

Police that arrived at the scene on the corner of 63rd Street and 19th Avenue gave the driver of the van a Breathalyzer test to rule out drunken driving. The driver was not charged in the accident.

The 45-year-old sanitation worker was taken to Bellevue Hospital with a serious leg injury. He is said to be in stable condition.
