Vandals break sprinklers at Dyker Beach playground

DYKER HEIGHTS - Sprinkler showers at a playground in Dyker Beach were vandalized over the weekend, leaving residents upset that they can't cool off in the hot weather.

The sprinklers' spouts were destroyed with rocks, and Dyker Heights residents suggested more park enforcement and security cameras to prevent future instances of vandalism. One parkgoer said security should also be monitoring the handball court, which often gets vandalized with graffiti.

The Parks Department has already begun repairing the sprinklers and hopes to have them back in service by this weekend. Officials say they're aware of the vandalism and have filed a report with the police.
