BAY RIDGE - Local veterans gathered in Bay Ridge today for a somber ceremony to commemorate the 72nd anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

On Dec. 7, 1941, the Japanese navy launched a surprise attack on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. More than 2,000 Americans were killed.

The Brooklyn residents who came out today say it's a time to reflect on what happened on the "day which will live in infamy," and also to honor the servicemen and women who protect the nation every day.

The ceremony ended with the tossing of a wreath into the water to honor the victims of the Pearl Harbor attack.
