BROOKLYN - A peace and prayer rally was held in Bedford-Stuyvesant tonight after a violent weekend around the borough.

The rally was held where 11-year-old Taylonni Mayzak was struck by a stray bullet on Friday night, paralyzing her from the neck down. Authorities believe that 10 gunshots were fired outside of Mayzak's Gates Avenue apartment before one hit her in the neck.

Mayzak's shooting was one of 13 shootings in Brooklyn over the weekend.

District Attorney Charles Hynes informed those in attendance that Kane Cooper has been charged with attempted murder and assault. Hynes says he is seeking multiple life sentences.

Speakers at the event urged the community to ensure that this kind of violence ends.

Tonight's ceremony was attended by elected officials and activists from across the borough.
