Volunteers rebuild Greenpoint tennis court

GREENPOINT - Residents in Greenpoint banded together and raised money to renovate a tennis court at McCaren Park.

When the Department of Parks and Recreation said it couldn?t afford the renovations, volunteers formed the McCaren Tennis Group. The group raised approximately $8,000 through tennis tournaments and throwing parties on the court.

After raising the funds, the volunteers worked four 12-hour days to finish renovating the court.

In order to finish the other six courts, the association says it will need another $25,000. It plans to hold another tournament in September and have fundraisers throughout the summer.
