BROOKLYN - ? Based on early reports, voter turnout for the 2010 midterm elections was higher than expected.

Low turnout in the September primary, especially among Democrats, as well as voting problems had some expecting a dismal showing for yesterday?s elections.

Nationwide, voter turnout increased in at least nine states. Experts say competitive races featuring tea-party candidates and frustration over the economy drove up the turnout.
