Wake held for Brooklyn native Miriam Carey, woman killed by police after Capitol Hill chase

BROOKLYN - A public viewing and wake were held Monday night for the Brooklyn native who was shot and killed by police near Capitol Hill.

Authorities say Miriam Carey tried to ram the gates of the White House back on Oct. 3. She had her young daughter in the car with her.

Family members say Carey’s mental health had been deteriorating before the incident. She had recently been diagnosed with postpartum depression and psychosis.

Services for the 34-year-old were held at the Grace Funeral Chapels in Brooklyn, where some of her family lives.

A funeral is set for Tuesday.
