BROOKLYN - A water main break on Avenue Z left many residences flooded and many residents unhappy this afternoon.

The Department of Environmental Protection says the United Company was excavating a barren lot when workers hit a six-inch water main. The break, coupled with today's rain, caused some flooding in the area. To compound the problem, nearly 100 homes had water service temporarily suspended until the main was repaired.

Crews were eventually able to repair the break this evening.
