The water is rising on the streets of Red Hook, where some residents decided not to heed a mandatory evacuation order ahead of Hurricane Sandy.

BROOKLYN - The water is rising on the streets of Red Hook, where some residents decided not to heed a mandatory evacuation order ahead of Hurricane Sandy.

Several local business have closed shop, boarding up their windows and placing sandbags outside to help protect from the storm.

The neighborhood is one of several flood-prone areas in Zone A that were told by Mayor Michael Bloomberg to pack up on Sunday.
