Woman stuck, killed by van in Sunset Park

SUNSET PARK - Officials say a pedestrian was struck and killed while crossing the street in Sunset Park Monday afternoon.

Police say 30-year-old Lassimin Alamontaser was crossing 5th Avenue on 56th Street while talking on her cellphone when she was hit by a van turning onto 5th Avenue. Witnesses say the van dragged her several feet before stopping.

Alamontaser was later pronounced dead at Lutheran Medical Center.

Police say both the pedestrian and the driver had a green light. The driver has not been charged in the incident.
