BROOKLYN - The number of women entrepreneurs in New York City is higher than ever before, especially in Brooklyn.

According to the city's Department of Small Business Services, the number of women-owned businesses climbed 43 percent citywide and 77 percent just in Brooklyn over the past decade.

The department also just launched Women Entrepreneurs NYC in an effort to encourage even more women to start up their own businesses.

One goal of the program is to provide 5,000 women with the skills and connections they need to start and grow their businesses. It wants to reach that number in the next three years.
