BROOKLYN - A top college athlete could soon be hitting the field as the first openly gay football player in the NFL.

University of Missouri All-American Michael Sam publicly announced Sunday that he’s gay after coming out to his teammates and coaches back in August.

The defensive end is scheduled to participate in the league's scouting camp later this month, and is expected to be a mid-round draft pick this May.

News 12 asked viewers if they think there will be acceptance on the gridiron if Sam makes it. Most say that in this day and age, it's not much of an issue and they support him.
