PARK SLOPE - City Council is considering charging consumers 10 cents every time they use a plastic bag to carry home their groceries.

The eco-friendly proposal aims to cut down on the 5.2 billion carry-out bags New Yorkers use each year, the majority of which are not recycled.

Officials add that the city spends $10 million annually to ship used plastic bags to landfills.

The proposal already has the support of 19 council members, just seven short of the 26 it needs to pass.
