The New York Yankees' Alex Rodriguez will undergo hip surgery next month.

THE BRONX - The New York Yankees' Alex Rodriguez will undergo hip surgery next month.

The third baseman will undergo four to six weeks of rehabilitation before having a torn labrum repaired. He'll then need another four to six months of recovery before returning to the baseball diamond.

The Yankees said that doctors believe there is a very strong possibility that Rodriguez's hip condition is to blame for a poor playoff performance.
