NEW YORK - The New York Yankees lost 8-2 to the Boston Red Sox on their own turf on Opening Day.

Jon Lester and the Red Sox got off to a quick start after a dreadful 2012 season, giving new manager John Farrell an 8-2 win over the barely recognizable New York Yankees at the Stadium.

The Yankees were without some big names, including captain and shortstop Derek Jeter, third baseman Alex Rodriguez and first baseman Mark Teixeira.

Former Red Sox player Kevin Youkilis faced off against his longtime team, wearing pinstripes for the first time.

The Yankees held a tribute to the victims of the Newtown school shooting ahead of the game. Both teams wore ribbons to honor those who lost their lives.
