PARK SLOPE - Shop owners along 7th Avenue are pushing for the creation of a Business Improvement District to help the local economy.

The BID would run along 7th Avenue from St. Johns Place to 16th Street.

Proponents of the BID held an informational meeting today. They say businesses pay into a fund that would specifically be used for cleanup and marketing.

Businesses would pay different amounts based on their square footage. For many businesses it would amount to about $700-$800 a year.

Some business owners say they are worried about paying more money in a struggling economy, while others say it’s a must-needed investment for the area.

Organizers have another informational meeting set for Tuesday, and more will be held in the coming months.
